Baron & Budd Shareholder Scott Summy Receives Law360 Titans of the Plaintiffs Bar Award

Summy was recognized for his remarkable achievements over the last year and his decades of dedicated service to protecting the environment.

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Baron & Budd is pleased to announce that Scott Summy, shareholder and leader of the Environmental Litigation Group, has been named to Law360’s 2024 Titans of the Plaintiffs Bar. The recognition goes to influential members of the plaintiffs bar who have had significant achievements over the previous year.

In 2023, Summy served as co-lead counsel representing public water providers in the record $12.5 billion nationwide class settlement with 3M, the largest drinking water contamination settlement in U.S. history. He also obtained a $1.185 billion nationwide class settlement on behalf of public water providers against DuPont and other manufacturers for PFAS contamination in drinking water supplies. Summy then created and negotiated the complex settlement structures in each case that will be used to fairly compensate public water suppliers nationwide for the detection, testing, and remediation of PFAS found in drinking water supplies.

“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from Law360 and their acknowledgment of the work we are doing on behalf of public water systems across the country that will benefit Americans who consume water from these systems,” said Summy. It has always been my mission to protect communities from the environmental harm caused by major corporations. My team and I remain dedicated to holding these companies accountable and ensuring everyone has access to clean, safe water.”

Summy has earned the nickname ‘The Water Lawyer’ because of his success in fighting water contamination wars against some of the world’s largest corporations and recovering billions on behalf of public water providers. With an impressive record of holding corporations accountable when their practices harm the public, Summy is an unquestioned leader in the fight against environmental contamination representing clients in some of the most high-profile cases including, the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill.

Summy remains at the forefront of environmental tort litigation with his innovative legal approaches, utilizing a deep understanding of environmental science and policy to pioneer the charge against polluters.
